Site Description
Situated in the vibrant Alger Heights neighborhood of Grand Rapids, Seymour Church is a five-generation congregation with a long history of ministry within our community. SERVE participants will likely notice the distinct feel of a small Midwestern town nestled amid a larger city. Residing a short distance from the heart of Grand Rapids means Seymour is only minutes away from several storied communities from whom we have much to learn about long-term ministry in a city. Participants will have a unique opportunity to see and experience our city through the lens of neighbors and organizations that have invested their lives in our city for decades.
SERVE Projects
We aim to provide mission-oriented redemptive-service opportunities by joining with what God is already doing in our city. This means that participants will have the opportunity to learn how the work they will be doing connects with God’s broader mission in the community before rolling up their sleeves to come alongside to support those already doing the work.

Facilities
Seymour Church will serve as the host site for most of the activities. Groups will sleep in upper and lower-level classroom areas, with the main level serving as the commons area. Upper classrooms are air-conditioned. Basement classrooms are not, but remain cool in the summer months. The main level and worship space are also air-conditioned.

TBD, but possibly Michigan’s Adventure on Thursday
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are not allowed during the SERVE week at this site for students. Cell phones may be used during the travel from your church to the SERVE site, but then are not allowed to be used during the SERVE week. The one exception is that cell phones will be allowed on the day away. Adult leaders will have their cell phones during the week.
Transportation
Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each church group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) for the entire mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans, SUVs, or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call the ThereforeGo Ministries office to discuss options and additional potential charges.
