Site Description
Pleasant View Church is located in the beautiful town of Abingdon, Virginia. Abingdon is part of the metropolitan area of the Tri-Cities TN / VA, which is made up of Bristol, Kingsport and Johnson City. Most people visit the Tri-Cities because of the NASCAR race track in Bristol or because they love country and bluegrass music – Bristol is known as the “birthplace of country music”. Our area is surrounded by beautiful lakes, mountains, and streams. What visitors to our area possibly overlook is the poverty that exists around every curve and down every country road. We are in the Appalachian region of the US, one of the most poverty-stricken areas in the country. The coalfields of Southwest Virginia are just minutes from Abingdon, and the coal towns that once were thriving are now shuttered and desolate. We would love for you to join us as we partner with area ministries to address the housing, food and health-care needs of our less fortunate neighbors.
SERVE Projects
Our SERVE participants will spend their days doing a variety of physical and relational projects. Some examples are;
- Light construction, home repairs
- Yard work, outdoor clean-up
- Working with local food ministries
- Working with children’s and youth ministries in low-income areas
- Working on our Spanish Speaking Church’s Facility to do some repair and remodeling work to support this important ministry we have in our community!

Facilities
Pleasant View GMC will be your home for the week. It is a large, air-conditioned facility. It is equipped with a large commercial kitchen, great sleeping areas, outside recreation facilities, and a large sanctuary for evening sessions. We will have a shower trailer for all youth and indoor shower facilities for the adult leaders.
Day Away
On our day away, we will drive to Soaky Mountain Waterpark in Pigeon Forge, TN for a day at waterpark in the Tennessee Mountains.
Cell Phone Policy
Participants are allowed to have their cell phones during the SERVE week at this site, but there are rules on when they can be used
Transportation
Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each church group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) for the entire mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans, SUVs, or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call the ThereforeGo Ministries office to discuss options and additional potential charges.

Tri Cities, TN (TRI). Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received email confirmation from ThereforeGo Ministries that you have been placed at this site.
