Site Description
Lynden is a small town (around 16,000 population) nestled between the Cascade Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, and large cities. The city of Lynden is a farming community focusing on berries, dairies, and potatoes. There are a couple of Christian retreat centers in the area and a number of organizations that support low-income families and homeless individuals. We would love to have you join us as we go out and serve the wonderful people in our community, building relationships with God and with each other that will last a lifetime.
SERVE Projects
Participants will work with local organizations to do work around the community that may include light construction projects, yard work, and other various projects that assist nonprofit organizations that serve the poor and homeless. Worksites may include:
- Cedar Springs Christian Retreat Center
- Christian Hope Association
- Serving local families
- Habitat for Humanity
- Outdoor labor (ex: gardening, landscape)
- And more
In Church Partnership With:
First CRC Lynden
Facilities
First Christian Reformed Church will be the host. Guys will sleep in our classrooms in our education building in the basement. Ladies will sleep in our new addition youth group room that has A/C. Showers will be at a school 5 minutes away.
Day Away
Northwest Washington is a beautiful area with a lot to offer! We are nestled right between the ocean and the mountains and we will spend the day exploring the great outdoors.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are not allowed during the SERVE week at this site for students. Cell phones may be used during the travel from your church to the SERVE site, but then are not allowed to be used during the SERVE week. Adult leaders will have their cell phones during the week.
Transportation
Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each church group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) for the entire mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans, SUVs, or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call the ThereforeGo Ministries office to discuss options and additional potential charges.
Nearest Airport
For those coming from the West Coast: Bellingham International Airport (BLI). For all others: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received email confirmation from ThereforeGo Ministries that you have been placed at this site.
