Let's Go!

Located on the south side of the Chicago metropolitan area, Palos Heights CRC has more than a 55-year history of ministry within our local and extended community. Originally planted in a farming community, Palos Heights CRC now exists in a mature suburban community in the heart of Chicagoland, eager to see the renewal of our community through our ministry and outreach. While Palos Heights is just minutes away from the beauty and grandeur of downtown Chicago, we also are just minutes away from some of the most impoverished communities of the metro area. From urban ministry centers to local non-profits, we are excited to partner with you during SERVE to reach out with the love of Christ to those in need.

Palos Heights will have a wide variety of service opportunities for participants to experience, with both physical and relational worksites available within Chicago and suburban communities. Worksites may include:

  • Beautifying our community in partnership with the Rec Department
  • Sorting clothes at thrift stores that support Christian schools or a local teen center
  • A summer camp with students in Chicago
  • Partnerships with global initiatives like Feed My Starving Children or Project CURE
  • Local food pantries
  • Painting and home repair for church members and neighbors
  • Partnerships with agencies that serve adults with developmental disabilities.

Facilities

Participants will sleep, eat and meet at Palos Heights CRC. Our sleeping facilities have A/C, but showers will be off-site at Trinity Christian College. Guys will stay in our LINK building and girls will stay in our main building’s classrooms and nursery, and we will eat and fellowship in the main church building.

Day Away

Our Sunday afternoon will be spent enjoying a picnic and possibly a pool party with our church family.

Our day away will give students and leaders the opportunity to experience and explore the sites (and tastes) of Downtown Chicago.

Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones are not allowed during the SERVE week at this site for students.  Cell phones may be used during the travel from your church to the SERVE site, but then are not allowed to be used during the SERVE week.  Adult leaders will have their cell phones during the week.

Transportation

Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each church group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) for the entire mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans, SUVs, or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call the ThereforeGo Ministries office to discuss options and additional potential charges.

Nearest Airport

Chicago Midway (MDW), or Chicago O’Hare (ORD). Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received email confirmation from ThereforeGo Ministries that you have been placed at this site.
