Site Description
The River Community Church (a church-plant in Douglas) and Children’s Haven (a ministry to at-risk children and teens living in the historic Blackstone Valley, including the city of Worcester) partner together to host Douglas SERVE. Douglas, a town almost 300 years old, is rich in natural resources, but often lacks in spiritual resources. SERVE participants are an intentional and important part of the church building a relationship with the community. Our site is unique as participants work along-side the teens of Children’s Haven who are part of the community you will be serving. By serving side-by-side the teens of Children’s Haven are exposed to the concept of youth ministry and serving others.
SERVE Projects
You will be helping us build and strengthen relationships with our community by not only coming alongside the people we serve, but also serving with them. You will serve our neighbors by helping the Elm Park Community School (in Worcester) prepare for the new school year, helping the town of Douglas with caring for their properties, assisting community feeding programs by harvesting food, helping local seniors with needs they may have, hands-on projects at the camp, and hosting a family fun-fest for children in our community.

Facilities
Participants will stay at our summer camp facility. The facilities include cabins with bunkbeds (no A/C), bathhouses with on-site showers, and meals served in our dining hall. Free time in the late afternoon offers choices of swimming in our pool, playing basketball or volleyball, visiting our snack shack, and just hanging out with other SERVE participants. We close the day with worship, s’mores, and free time in our campfire area.

Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are not allowed during the SERVE week at this site for students. Cell phones may be used during the travel from your church to the SERVE site, but then are not allowed to be used during the SERVE week. Adult leaders will have their cell phones during the week.
Transportation
Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each church group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) for the entire mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans, SUVs, or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call the ThereforeGo Ministries office to discuss options and additional potential charges.
