SERVE Projects
Planned worksites are located in the urban center of Bozeman along with the smaller towns of Manhattan, Churchill, Belgrade and Gallatin Gateway. This will ensure that we make a broad impact amongst a diverse group of Montanans. Some worksites are more relational, while others enable youth to get their hands dirty! The list of work sites include:
- Love INC
- A free car wash
- Serving local families
- Assisting at area retirement homes and senior centers
- Twice Treasured Thrift Store
- And more!
Site Description
Originally named by Native American tribes “estovomao’et vehpototse”, or “Valley of Flowers”, the Gallatin Valley was designated as an area for intertribal peace and serenity whose beauty speaks for itself. But between soaring mountains and sprawling prairies, the people of Yellowstone’s gateway often get overlooked. With the help of high school youth, our churches hope to reach out to those people who are in need in this valley. Worship takes place in a variety of environments, which is why Gallatin Valley SERVE offers a few different locations and settings for evening worship throughout the week. Most unique to Gallatin Valley SERVE is the varied summer temperatures. During SERVE, participants have encountered snow! Be prepared for hot, dry days that are accompanied by cool, refreshing nights.
Participants will live, sleep and eat in Manhattan Christian School. The school provides an ideal layout for separate girls/boys wings and a central lounge area with a gym, locker rooms with showers, and a cafeteria. Worship services and some evening meals will take place across the parking lot at Manhattan CRC. Neither facility has A/C, but Montana summers often do not warrant the need for it.
Hyalite Reservoir is a pristine location for outdoor recreation activities that are enjoyed by Montanans every summer. High mountain ridges surround this reservoir, which glows in the rising and setting sun. Two different levels of hiking are offered to begin the day that students and adults will choose from. During the hikes, we will see waterfalls, rushing streams, and alpine lakes as they traverse the high elevation! We have a camp site that functions as our ‘home base’ for the day where you can go paddle boarding, swimming, kayaking, and hiking. We end our day with worship around a campfire.
*If your group desires to visit Yellowstone National Park, we would suggest that you visit Yellowstone on the Friday or Saturday before Gallatin Valley SERVE begins. If you go on Saturday morning, you need to leave the park by 12:00pm to make it for registration in Manhattan. It is easier and more enjoyable to visit Yellowstone when you are not rushed, so make sure you have a timeline before you go that takes into account how long it takes just to drive through the massive park!
Get Directions
Registration fees do NOT include transportation to and from the sites. Each church group must provide vehicle(s) and adult driver(s) for the entire mission experience regardless of whether you fly or drive to the site. The vehicles you bring will be used to transport small groups to the work site each day, so 12-passenger vans or mini-vans are preferred. Cars do not facilitate the transportation of an entire small group in one vehicle, so please do not bring them. If you wish to bring a bus, please check with the Host Team to see if this is acceptable before you make arrangements. If your group is unable to provide van transportation, please have a youth leader call the ThereforeGo office to discuss options and additional charges.
Gallatin Field – Bozeman Airport (BZN). Please DO NOT book airfare until you have received email confirmation from ThereforeGo Ministries that you have been placed at this site.
Regarding technology, all participants will turn in cell phones, tablets, and other electronic devices for the duration of SERVE. These technological devices will be returned just prior to your departure home. If you want to photograph the beauty of Montana, take a camera along to capture the mountain peaks, alpine lakes, rushing waterfalls, and amazing image-bearers. We also have individuals dedicated to taking great pictures of the week that will be shared with you via social media and our PhotoCircle account.
